I would not ask you to forget
How I’ve betrayed your trust.
I’m asking, though, that you forgive
Because I feel I must.
I can’t just let our friendship go
Nor let this silence last.
I know I can’t undo what’s done,
But, please, let past be past.
Let my mistake be memory
Where you may keep your pain,
While I annihilate this thing
I’ll never do again.
And let us once again renew
A friendship that is real:
Limping, yes, but still alive,
With wounds that time can heal.
Nicholas Gordon
Blow, Blow, thou winter wind!
Thou art not so unkind
As man’s ingratitude
Thy tooth is not so keen
Because thou art not seen.
Although thy breath be rude.
Heigh ho! sing, heigh ho! unto the green holly;
Most friendship is feigning most loving mere folly.
Then, heigh ho, the holly!
This life is most jolly.
Freeze, freeze, thou bitter sky,
That dost not bite so nigh
As benefits forgot:
Though thou the watters warp,
Thy sting is not so sharp
As friend remembered not.
Heigh-ho! sing heigh-ho! unto the green holly:
Most friendship is feigning, most love mere folly:
Then heigh-ho, the holly!
This life is most Jolly.
William Shakespeare
